Beer cardboard, although at first glance an unusual material for beekeeping, plays a specific role in maintaining healthy bee colonies. Its main use is as a carrier for medicinal preparations when treating hives against the Varroa destructor mite.

25 sheets of sturdy beer cardboard with a weight of 390 gsm and a thickness of 1 mm in warm white, measuring 25 cm in length and 7 cm in width.
This type of cardboard, known for its high hygroscopicity (the ability to absorb and retain liquids), is used in the form of strips. These strips are soaked in a medicinal solution, most often based on essential oils (such as thymol) or organic acids (such as formic or oxalic acid).
The application process is as follows:
- The strips of beer cardboard are dipped into a pre-prepared medicinal solution.
- After absorbing the required amount of the product, they are placed inside the hive, usually between the frames containing bees.
- As the bees move along the strips, they come into contact with the medication and spread it throughout the entire bee colony.
Advantages of using beer cardboard:
- Suitable for organic beekeeping: The use of essential oils and organic acids carried by the cardboard strips is an approved method in organic beekeeping. It allows for effective mite control without contaminating bee products (honey, wax) with residues of synthetic chemicals.
- Prolonged release of the active ingredient: Thanks to its absorbent properties, beer cardboard ensures a gradual and sustained evaporation of the active ingredient. This ensures a longer period of therapeutic action (often between 40 and 60 days), which is key to eliminating mites at various stages of their development.
- Gentle on bees: When applied at the correct dosage, this method is considered gentler on the bees and the queen bee compared to some more aggressive chemical treatments. It does not interfere with the queen’s egg-laying or the development of the brood.
- Easy to use: The method is relatively easy for beekeepers to implement and does not require complex equipment.

For orders worth less than BGN 100, the cost of the courier service is at the buyer’s expense and is determined depending on:

- Delivery method (To office or to address)
- The weight and volume of the shipment
The amount of the courier service is calculated automatically by the system upon completion of an order.
A minimal difference in the amount of the courier service upon receipt of the package is possible due to discrepancies in the total weight of the package calculated by the system and the weight measured by the courier company.
