What Is Yarn?
- 8-strand structure: It is spun from eight separate cotton strands. When cut, they fan out, which helps create a fluffy pom-pom with a nice, even volume.
- Surface: A naturally matte texture characteristic of pure cotton. It feels soft to the touch and is comfortable to work with.
- Yarn Strength: The cotton fibers withstand strong tension, and the central knot holds firmly without the risk of the thread breaking.
Application and Material Consumption
- Decorative pom-poms: Suitable for making pom-poms with a smooth surface. One skein is enough for several large pom-poms or a series of smaller decorative pom-poms.
- Wreaths and hanging decorations: Leave the thread from the central knot longer; it can be used directly to attach the pom-pom to a wreath base (woven willow, straw) or to string it into hanging garlands.
- Weaving a a small loom: With this thread thickness, the weft rows fill in quickly. It creates a dense, colorful texture when making woven panels.
- Tufts and fringes: The loose ends are left twisted or combed out with a comb, causing the strands to form a soft, fine brush.
Work Conduct
- Tightening in the center: Since cotton doesn’t stretch, the knot in the middle stays tight right where it is and holds the bundle securely.
- Shaping with scissors: The cotton fibers stand upright and are easy to trim. During the final trimming, the shape quickly becomes a symmetrical ball.
- Maintenance: The cotton elements retain their volume over time. If dust accumulates on the wreaths and decorations, they can be easily refreshed with a light shake or a soft, dry brush.
