Saus is a small block made of chalk, clay, and pigment. Its name comes from the French word for sauce (sauce), but in Bulgaria, the Russian pronunciation “sous” is more common. It’s called that because it’s mixed with water (to the consistency of a sauce) and applied with a brush.
It can also be described as a water-soluble (liquid) pastel or charcoal. It is popular for portraits, landscapes, and sketches on rough paper.

How do you use it?
- Dry medium (such as pastel or charcoal): You draw directly on the paper. The material is very soft and can be easily smudged with your fingers, cotton, or a paper pencil to create smooth shading.
- Wet method (like liquid pastel or charcoal): Grate part of the sauce into a powder, mix it with water in a palette and applied with a a brush like ink. When it dries, it becomes opaque and matte. Once dry, you can paint over it again with dry media or use bread gum to lighten details.
Recommendation
Since the material is extremely soft, finished drawings (especially those done with dry media) smudge easily. To protect the artwork, you can use a fixative for pastels and charcoal.

For orders worth less than BGN 100, the cost of the courier service is at the buyer’s expense and is determined depending on:
- The selected courier company Speedy AD or Econt Express
- Delivery method (To office or to address)
- The weight and volume of the shipment
The amount of the courier service is calculated automatically by the system upon completion of an order.
A minimal difference in the amount of the courier service upon receipt of the package is possible due to discrepancies in the total weight of the package calculated by the system and the weight measured by the courier company.
