In oil painting, turpentine is traditionally used to thin the paint and clean the brushes.
Turpentine dissolves linseed oil, which serves as the binder in oil paints, and makes the paint “thinner,” which is why it is often used as a painting medium only in the lower layers of a painting.
Adding turpentine to oil paints or painting mediums helps to eliminate brush marks to some extent.
Purified pine turpentine can be used to remove the final protective varnish applied to a painting (including dried varnish), which is necessary when cleaning or restoring paintings. Let’s light it.
