This pouring medium for acrylic paints is one of the most exciting ways to create unique abstract paintings or to add colorful accents to objects made of cardboard, wood, stone, clay, ceramics, and Styrofoam using the force of gravity.
It mixes completely and evenly with all types of acrylic paints and dries clear, leaving the paints unchanged. It also improves the adhesion of the paints to the desired surface.
There are all sorts of pouring techniques for painting on canvas, but they all start with the same step:
The pre-mixed medium is combined with the paint in a 2:1 ratio (the ratio varies depending on the paint’s viscosity) in a small container or cup until a smooth consistency is achieved; the colors are then carefully poured onto the surface and, by tilting the container in different directions, completely cover it.
To create a cellular pattern or “grid” in the painting, you can use silicone oil, alcohol, or dish soap by mixing them with the paint, spraying them on, or dripping them onto the surface, each producing a different effect.
