PBk11 (Pigment Black 11), often referred to as Mars Black, is a synthetic black iron oxide.
Unlike carbon black, this pigment is of mineral origin, which gives it a specific density, high specific gravity, and excellent physicochemical properties.
It has very good coverage and produces a rich, deep black color with a cool, slightly bluish-gray undertone when diluted or mixed with white.

- Color Index: PBk11
- Lightfastness: Excellent (grade 8 out of 8 on the Blue Wool Scale). Does not fade when exposed to UV rays.
- Weather resistance: Extremely high.
- Chemical stability: Completely alkali- and acid-resistant. Does not react with cement, lime, acrylic, or silicate binders.
- Dispersibility: It is hydrophilic. It wets and disperses in water much more easily than organic black pigments, without floating to the surface.
The pigment is versatile and compatible with almost all types of binding agents (mediums):
- Painting (Oil, Acrylic, Tempera, Watercolor): Known in classical painting as “Mars Black.” It creates thick, opaque layers. Thanks to its cool undertone, it is suitable for smooth gradients, gray tones, and shadows without imparting a brownish tint.
- Sculpture, Mosaics, and Ceramics: Due to its complete resistance to alkaline environments, the pigment is suitable for coloring concrete mixes, plaster, cement, grout, and architectural elements without compromising the material’s strength.
- Graphics and Calligraphy: Used to prepare ink and printing inks (linocut, etching).
- Specific Effects: Due to its natural magnetic properties, the pigment reacts to strong magnets, allowing for the creation of three-dimensional textures and effects in liquid media (for example, when working with epoxy resin or fluid acrylic).
Comparison with Carbon Black (PBk7):
- Opacity: PBk11 is more opaque and heavier.
- Handling: It is not as volatile as soot, which reduces dust in the workspace. It mixes easily with water-based binders without the need to add excessive amounts of surfactants (wetting agents).

- The weight and volume of the shipment
The amount of the courier service is calculated automatically by the system upon completion of an order.
A minimal difference in the amount of the courier service upon receipt of the package is possible due to discrepancies in the total weight of the package calculated by the system and the weight measured by the courier company.
