The six traditional colors of the hard dry pastels in this set—black, white, burnt and raw umber and sienna—are part of Rembrandt’s exclusive “Carré” series, which honors the time-honored tradition of making dry pastels from chalk, kaolin, and colored clay, bringing together a total of 18 shades of black, white, gray, and earth tones.
The rectangular pastels are packaged in a sturdy pocket-sized case, which is convenient to carry during plein air sessions, classes, and lessons.
The formula for the “Kare” sticks includes the same ingredients as that of fine pastels, but in different proportions, giving them a hardness that falls between that of soft dry pastels and chalk, which makes them more suitable for sketching portraits, human figures, landscape compositions, and still lifes on almost any type of paper.
Their excellent color properties and maximum lightfastness make Kare a small, luxurious gift for both beginners and professional artists.
