Ink drawing and calligraphy:
Moderate absorption gives a feeling of control over the mascara. The lines remain clean. The strength and softness ensure smooth brush movement.
Book Restoration and Conservation:
The paper is very thin, soft, and of uniform thickness, which makes it ideal for reinforcing pages, binding, and repairing books without unnecessarily increasing the thickness of the book block.
Lampshades and lighting fixtures:
The light passes through and is softly diffused. The flexibility and elasticity of the paper make it easy to stretch and attach to the lamp’s support frame.
The Traditional Chinese Format
The term “Three Chi” (三尺) comes from the ancient Chinese unit of length, the chi (approximately 33.3 cm). The dimensions 53 x 100 cm correspond exactly to 3 chi. This standard is the classic scale in Eastern art for medium-sized scrolls.
Origin and Name
Here at Slanchogled, this type of paper is most often referred to as “rice paper.” In Bulgaria and Western Europe, this name has become a general term for any thin, flexible, and semi-transparent Asian paper used for creative projects.
In terms of quality, this is an affordable grade of Chinese Xuan paper, intended for practice and creative projects. Unlike heavy European paper, it is made from light plant and wood fibers, which give it its characteristic softness, flexibility, and unique absorbency.
