Workflow:
- Preparation: The process is most effective at room temperature (20–25°C). The sample and mixing vessels must be completely clean, dry, and free of grease or dust.
- Dosing: Dosing is performed using an electronic scale. Equal amounts of Part A and Part B are measured by WEIGHT, in a 1:1 ratio.
- Mixing: Combine the two components in a clean container. Stir the mixture thoroughly for 3–5 minutes until a homogeneous solution is achieved. It is recommended to scrape the sides and bottom of the container thoroughly while stirring to ensure complete mixing.
- Vacuuming (Recommended Step): To achieve a casting free of air bubbles, it is recommended that the mixture be vacuumed. The procedure lasts 5–10 minutes, until air stops being released from the mixture.
- Pouring: Pour the silicone slowly in a thin stream, starting from the lowest point of the casting box. This method helps residual air escape and prevents the formation of bubbles.
- Curing: The mold takes 4–6 hours to fully cure at room temperature (about 25°C). Working at lower temperatures prolongs this process. Curing can be accelerated by moderate heating (e.g., up to 50°C) after the silicone has been poured into the mold.
Important Information and Safety Precautions:
Risk of inhibition (failure to cure): Platinum-cured silicones are extremely sensitive to certain substances that can halt the chemical reaction. Therefore, during use, avoid contact between the silicone (in liquid form) or the tools and:
- Tin (found in condensation silicones)
- Sulfur (found in some types of modeling clay and latex gloves)
- Amines, amides, and ammonia
- Some adhesives (such as cyanoacrylate adhesives—”Kapchitsa”)
- Strong Acids and Bases
If there is any doubt about the purity of the materials, a small compatibility test can be performed.
