Unlike linseed oil, which is a traditional binder and thinner for oil paints, Talens’ No. 028 purified poppyseed oil has no yellowish tint, making it suitable for mixing with light colors.
When poppy seed oil is added to paints instead of linseed oil, there is less risk of the applied coat wrinkling, but the drying time is longer. A coat of paint containing poppy seed oil is less durable than a coat containing linseed oil.
The manufacturer recommends using poppy seed oil only on the top layer of the painting.
Poppy seed oil can be diluted with white spirit or turpentine if necessary.
