One of the traditional techniques in oil painting is building up the image by applying thin, semi-transparent layers of paint, which allows the color of the previous layer to blend optically with the color of the layer above it, giving the image depth and a sense of luminosity.
In English, this technique is referred to as “glazing,” while in Bulgarian, the term “velatura” is commonly used.
To achieve this effect, a transparent oil paint (usually marked with an empty square on the tube (□)) is mixed with a glazing medium (Talens 086 Glazing Medium) and applied with a soft brush in a thin layer over the dried previous layer of paint.
Talens 086 painting medium contains vegetable oils, synthetic resins, and white spirit; when mixed with paints, it increases the durability, elasticity, and gloss of the applied paint layer without affecting drying time or causing yellowing.
When mixed with paint, the medium causes brushstrokes to “blend together,” making them imperceptible. It can be thinned with white spirit or turpentine as needed. Let’s light it.
